Working From Home - Tips From An Expert
After working from home full time for 5 years, I’d like to think I am some what of an expert on the subject. But for many right now it is a whole new world, and something that can take some time adjusting too. So here are my top tips to make sure you stay sane and get some work done!
Write a list for the day -
I am the list Queen, anyone who knows me, knows I love a good list. There is something so soothing about ticking off each job. It also eliminates procrastination, and breaks your day into achievable tasks, so you don’t feel overwhelmed.
Do not work from bed -
Bed is for sleep and relaxing, work is not generally relaxing so don’t mix the two together. You will get distracted, possibly fall asleep, and it is terrible for your posture and neck.
Do the sh*t jobs first -
Start by getting the jobs you don’t want to do, out of the way first. You will feel super accomplished and the day will breeze by (hopefully).
Have a routine -
I like to get up, do a work out, do my skincare routine, write my to do list for the day, have brekky and make a green tea, I then check social media for my business and the other accounts I manage, check my emails and then get stuck into all my work for the day. Note: Don’t stay in your pjs all day it will be highly un-motivating.
Eliminate distractions -
Try to stay productive, that could mean putting your phone on mute or in another room, so you aren’t constantly checking your phone. (guilty!) This is why I am best reached via email, because for majority of the day my phone is on do not disturb. You could also wear noise cancelling head phones to block out the background noise.
Get up and stretch -
I find this a good mood lifter, even if it’s to walk to the toilet. Just stretch and move your whole body throughout the day.
Eat lunch away from your desk -
Preferably in the sunshine outside, without your phone. Have a break and let your brain/eyes rest and just enjoy your lunch. Be present.
Have a dedicated space -
Set up an office/ work space that motivates you to work!
What I love about working from home: Listening to music that motivates me, or a podcast that I can laugh out loud to. Having the flexibility with your work hours. You save time and money not having to commute to work each day, pay for parking and lunch out etc. I can multi task, and better manage multiple projects and clients in one place. And most importantly snack whenever I feel like it.
I hope this helps you!
